Create your own video on Linux

DeVeDe is a product that allows the generation of discs of different video formats. It is very useful because it creates the files and converts source files if necessary. It also has the ability to resize, and even apply a deinterlacing filter to remove those pesky tan lines when looking at plans in motion. Is licensed as GPL, and then you pass a small basic tutorial.

Installation.

In his official website, we have the option to download in. Tar, or. Deb package. Anyway, on my Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala), the package is available in version 3.13.1, so that through Synaptic is as easy as select and install it.

Startup.

Applications / Sound and Video, you'll see the shortcut to DeVeDe. The first screen that appears is the following:

We hypothesized choose DivX / MPEG-4. Then we listed the home screen:

On the main screen, we note: The File menu if we want to save the structure of the work that you'll be sent DeVeDe to be retrieved later, DeVeDe Add to tell which files you want to include in the generation, if occupancy calculations we had no support or destination and the default format. Important is also the Advanced section, of which more anon.

If you add a file and select the advanced options ...

I recommend especially two things:

The tab "Video Format". Here we can decide what size we want for the video destination. Beware of the "Default", because if it does not detect it, the result will be wrong sizing. In my case, I've been trying to convert a video file to Divx DVD and the result was the wide picture, so that to avoid problems, I recommend you seleccionéis directly target size. Be also careful with the aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9).

The "Quality" tab. Here you will find a way to remove annoying interlaced videos to play on television. There are several options to deinterlace, but I've tried is the choice of FFMpeg, and doing quite well. If anyone has tried one, you can leave a comment.

You have to think that these options apply to the current video, and not all together, so do not forget to configure (those who wish to configure). And you just need to add all the videos to the list, giving the forward button and specify where you want to save the result. DeVeDe will generate a file. Avi for each of the videos included in the list.
